ConceptAbout JAANE

JAANE is a service that helps people grasp the finite nature of life—
that an end will come, usually unexpectedly—
and lets you leave messages for those most dear too you, before it is too late.

01The purpose

JAANE’s purpose.

” I wish I had said.. ”
“I wish I had told you..”
We wish to save people from having regrets from words not uttered until too late.

A big part of JAANE’s purpose is to offer people a chance to feel alive in the present.

Thanks to advances in medicine, technology and the sheer busyness of daily life, the idea of “The end of your life” seems to have faded into something distant, almost like a myth.

And yet, when accidents, disasters or illnesses strike, that myth suddenly becomes reality.
Often in those moments, unspoken words dissolve into feelings of regret.

Wishing you had said,
“Thank you” “I’m sorry” “I love you”

Can leave a deep hole in your heart, both for the parted and those left behind.

JAANE aims to help you be 'alive' in the present.

JAANE aims to help you
be ‘alive’ in the present.

By creating a few moments to ponder your feelings about your loved ones, composing a heartfelt message to be delivered in time, JAANE helps you reflect on your feelings, bringing your consciousness ‘alive’ in the present.
(Instead of worrying about the future, regretting the past or buzzing around to finish tomorrow’s work)

Although it may sound contradictory,
we did not create this app to help prepare people for death.
We made it to help people to feel ‘alive’ in the present.

Rather than fearing the end that will one day arrive, we invite you to use JAANE as a tool to live more fully—your consciousness ‘alive’ in the present.

JAANE aims to create a new norm where you won’t have to regret words you didn’t say, and instead lets you put those feelings into a heartfelt message whilst reflecting on what truly matters in your life.

02The value

The value JAANE creates.

What we seek to create is the ability to choose how to live now—
and the power to act on it.

Acknowledging that life will come to an end, lets us learn to appreciate it better, by reflecting on our feelings and understanding what really is important.
This is where JAANE’s value lies.

Many people avoid facing their mortality.
But we believe doing so makes people kinder—and stronger.

Your feelings; the starting point of a cycle of kindness and love.

Your feelings; the starting point of a cycle of kindness and love.

JAANE is the catalyst.

By leaving words for someone you care about, you naturally begin to think:
What would I like to say?
To whom should I convey my feelings to?
What are my feelings towards them?

Despite living in an age where we can connect with anyone anytime online, many people still feel lonely and disconected.
JAANE gives you a chance to give your feelings a deep rooted connection, by leaving a message for someone. To be read when the time comes.
When you leave this world, your heartfelt message could become someone else’s strength to live—like a light that shines away the darkness in their life.
In time, that person may leave words for someone else too, adding to the cycle of kindness.

Understanding the finite nature of life, your mortality, makes you kinder, stronger and will help you live a fuller life.

03The background

The Story behind JAANE

“See you again next year Grandma”
— that became a promise forever unfulfilled.

This planted the seed, which JAANE was born out of.

From the earlist time I can remember till sixth grade, I would visit Grandma’s home in Shimane.

As I moved up to middle school, club activities and cram school suddenly filled my summers. Then in high school, part-time work, friends, and study took over. Overtime, those long summer days had quietly faded. Utill it was gone.

Every summer, memories still return.
The watermelon.
The cola.
..at Grandma’s house.
The Kinako mochi she made for me.

“Alright, I’m definitely gonna see Grandma next year, after I pass my university entrance exams.”

That was the promise I made to myself during the summer of my third year in high school—just as I was getting myself into exam preparation mode.

Unexpected news came.

“Grandma…. died” my mother said in tears.

Many of us are not used to sudden farewells.
Accidents, disasters, illnesses.

News of death comes across TV and social media, yet it always seems like an event from another world.

But sometimes, that today actually becomes the last day.
And in those last moments, people often feel,
” I wish I had said.. ” “I wish I had told you..”

Life comes with regrets, but we believe some don’t have to be.

“I wish I had said..” “I wish I had told you..”
We wish a world free of regret from words not said until too late.
That is the wish that inspired us to create JAANE.
